New gPanel Contacts Feature Now Available in Labs

What's Changing

gPanel Contacts is a new, standalone feature that allows Admins to centrally own, manage, and distribute organizational contacts in gPanel.  This removes the dependency on user-owned contact sources and reduces risk during onboarding/offboarding.

Included in this release:

  • Labs opt-in + new gPanel Contacts permissions
  • Admin import workflows (contacts stored in the gPanel Contacts Directory)
  • Trash, recovery, and permanent delete controls with 30-day retention
  • New gPanel Contact Sync for distribution to specific users, groups, OUs, and domains (separate from legacy Contact Sync)
  • Migration safeguards display a warning when creating a new gPanel Contact Sync if the provided Google Label name conflicts with a legacy Contact Sync or an existing gPanel Contact Sync.

Who’s Impacted

Admins and end users

Why It’s Important

This feature is important because it moves shared contacts into an admin-owned system of record, so contact availability is no longer dependent on individual user accounts or fragile sync behaviors. With fine-grained permissions, real-time updates, and trash/recovery, organizations reduce operational risk and admin overhead while ensuring users always have the right contacts when they need them.

Rollout Pace

Deployed to gPanel Labs on January 26, 2026. To enable, navigate to Admin > Labs and then toggle the “gPanel Contacts” feature to “Enabled.”

Once the feature has been enabled, you'll be able to access gPanel Contacts under the Directory menu.

Availability

Available to gPanel Starter, Standard, and Enterprise customers.
